Yesterday’s little post about Poem in Your Pocket Day shared how we finished off a busy week at school.
Here are a couple of other great things that happened this week.
We are an International Baccalaureate School, authorized as a World School for our Middle Years Programme. Once a school is authorized, a visiting team comes every 5 years to see how implementation of the programme is going. This week we had our five year visit.
I was part of the team at authorization and it was a phenomenal amount of work to reach that goal. Since then, we’ve had many changes at the school, but the Middle Years Programme has held firm through transitions – making changes that strengthen the programme and making an effort to align strongly with the mission of the school. We’re poised to move on into the future in really powerful ways.
It was gratifying to get this news from the visiting team, shared with us by our Head of School at the conclusion of their two day visit to the school:
Every single community member is “vibrant, alive, and concerned for ongoing school improvement and growth, which is real grounds for innovation.” They remarked that the IB mission is “in the air,” and we have something special to hold onto, which they don’t often see in other schools. Pretty powerful affirmation of the immense amount of work our MYP team has done the past few years to improve and grow. They were very complimentary of our Primary division’s work, too, though that was not their focus. It is evident to them that we’re doing the work to align our practices with the IB so that when we’re ready to apply for authorization, we’ll be more than ready.
And it was Earth Day!! What a fun day it was at school. The second graders read The Lorax to us, during a community assembly. Community members were inivited to share leaves to add to this tree.
Isn’t it great? I love all the ideas people have shared so far.
IBO visiting team and some wonderful feedback. Earth Day. Poem in Your Pocket Day. I’m grateful for the school community I’ve been part of for the past 12 years.
