This collar was most likely commercially made, but Kate’s own tatted lacework graces the edges. It is of linen, and would be lovely on a light or a dark blouse. Again it ties around the neck, covering the top edge of the blouse. I tried it on for size, holding the tapes together at the back with my fingers. It fits just right, and lies beautifully flat. I can picture her ironing this with a flat iron pulled hot from the top of the coal stove. Can you see her holding the old glass bottle topped with a sprinkling head? She would have sprinkled the linen liberally with water before touching the iron to it. Linen loves humidity under the iron.
