Grateful: these things made me smile

It’s busy. My part-time job is full at this time of year, what with chasing down over due books and making sure everyone has what they need before we shut down for the summer. And I’m retiring from this job, remember? So there is lots more to do, to take care of, to bring to a close. There is lots to do, but these things have made me smile recently.

Visits from the Children’s Librarian at our public library always make me smile. Last year we could not fit in her end-of-year visit, which was very sad! Our school gets out earlier than others, and other schools take the slots that fall outside of testing windows, so sometimes there isn’t much time left for us.

This time we got prime time! And Miss Sarah from the library came to share the theme of summer reading, which was Fizz, Boom, Read! She made things fizz and pop in our library. And she had the coolest science hair.

Surprise flowers make me smile. These poppies were completely buried in buttercup and so spindly they couldn’t stand up on their own. I didn’t want them to get lost again. They showed their appreciation…

And whenever peonies bloom I count it as success, that they didn’t completely fall over, and that a squirrel didn’t carry away the bud.

Of course, books made me smile. I gave my students choice for my last week of story times at school. Really last. They chose some great ones. I was glad we had time for two in several classes.
