NaNo Day Ten Inspiration: Postcard from a Friend-the Language of Flowers

I only have this photo with me, to write from for today. The image is a nosegay of flowers accompanied by a sentiment: the meaning of each of the flowers pictured there, of course.
Kate’s friend Della wrote this. I don’t have her words here beside me, but they are simple, and they express something of the everyday. They are a reaching out, a connection to another time and place. Kate received many of these postcards, sentimental and sweet, over many years
To me, it speaks of an era when practicing the art of friendship was held as important. The simple act of choosing, writing, then posting a card to a friend meant caring. I wish – I wish we could find that deliberate act of practicing at caring in our own era. I try. I’m not terribly good at it. But I try.
