Somewhere in Kate’s things is a studio-style portrait of…. wait for it… a huge cabbage patch in front of the family home. The quantity of cabbage is astonishing to see out in front of the house, and it’s only cabbage in that garden. Nothing else. In my mind, I imagine this large amount of one single vegetable as front yard landscaping, and it strikes me as interesting. That’s probably not actually what the image really is; maybe it’s an ornamental variety which was highly fashionable at the time. but that’s how it has stuck in my mind. Each time I look at these two huge earthenware crocks I’ve inherited, that photo of the cabbage patch comes to mind. Really, imagine the sauerkraut you could make in here!
Tomorrow: the stationery box.
