Teaching and simple treasures

I just got an email from one of the women who took my pouch class at Serial Knitters 2 weekends ago. She was sending a photo of her first independent finished piece. It was pretty ambitious! It was lovely! It was – well, inspiring. Why?

When I teach, one of my goals is to help students become independent learners. Whether this means helping 4th graders find books in the library, or helping an adult student confidently approach design tasks and techniques, the joy I feel when it really happens is the same, and it’s immeasurable!

So, I am jazzed. It’s my birthday today – what a nice gift, to find a student photo in my inbox. Makes everything rosy. That’s the kind of thing which inspires me. What simple treasures inspire you ?
